{"id":162,"date":"2018-04-26T10:20:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T10:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bedfont.com\/wp\/?p=162"},"modified":"2018-04-26T10:20:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-26T10:20:00","slug":"local-man-30-braves-hottest-ever-recorded-london-marathon-to-raise-awareness-of-unpredictable-killer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bedfont.com\/pl\/local-man-30-braves-hottest-ever-recorded-london-marathon-to-raise-awareness-of-unpredictable-killer\/","title":{"rendered":"Local man, 30, braves hottest ever recorded London Marathon to raise awareness of unpredictable killer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Maidstone, Kent, tackled the heatwave on Sunday to run the London Marathon for Asthma UK<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local man, Andy Smith, finally runs his first marathon on Sunday 22nd April after an injury set him back last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asthma, a chronic respiratory disease which can also be fatal, has \nbeen raising more concerns than ever after Asthma UK found that over \n120,000 asthma sufferers in the UK are at risk from wrongly prescribed \nmedication and a study by NICE revealed that 30% of people with asthma \nare suspected to have been misdiagnosed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI chose Asthma UK for many reasons, but mainly I want to raise \nawareness of the dangers of asthma and just how many people it affects; \napproximately 250,000 people die prematurely each year from asthma and \nalmost all of these deaths are avoidable1. As someone who was \nmisdiagnosed with asthma myself, I understand its importance and want \nothers to be aware.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was all set to partake in the Marathon last year but 2 weeks \nbefore I unfortunately injured my Achilles and was unable to take part. \nAfter PEMF therapy and rest I was able to start training again. All my \ntraining was in the winter, so none of it had prepared me for the \nhottest London Marathon ever recorded, but I did it and I\u2019m pretty happy\n with my time, 4 hours and 37 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andy\u2019s company, Bedfont\u00ae also manufactures the NObreath\u00ae FeNO \nmonitor, which has been helping to improve asthma diagnosis and \nmanagement for over 10 years.&nbsp;Known as the unpredictable killer because,\n according to Asthma UK, it is still very much a misunderstood \ncondition, Andy also wants to raise awareness of how the NObreath\u00ae can \naddress these concerns.&nbsp;Interpreting FeNO levels with the NObreath\u00ae can \naid in identifying patients who do\/do not require on-going treatment2, \nwhilst differentiating between allergic (eosinophilic) and non-allergic \nasthma3. If used daily, FeNO measurements can also help to predict \nexacerbations and attacks4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andy was one of many who ran 26.2 miles in the record-breaking \nheat.
