This is an \nincrease of 50 more deaths compared to 2013, two-thirds of which could \nhave been prevented with better basic care, according to Asthma UK. \nBedfont Scientific, who manufacture the NObreath\u00ae Fractional exhaled \nNitric Oxide (FeNO) device, recommended by NICE , has been working with \nGP\u2019s to implement the draft NICE asthma guidance which recommends FeNO \ntesting in asthma management as part of a pilot hoping to improve basic \nasthma care and save future lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this latest development in asthma figures sparking increasing \nconcerns, especially following statistics released earlier this year \nfrom Asthma UK which found that over 120,000 asthma sufferers in the UK \nare at risk from wrongly prescribed medication and NICE\u2019s findings that \n30% of people with asthma are suspected to have been misdiagnosed, \nBedfont Scientific are campaigning vigorously to raise awareness of FeNO\n measuring and it\u2019s benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jason Smith, General Manager at Bedfont Scientific Ltd, explains,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\n    \u201cNitric Oxide is naturally produced by the lungs to combat airway \ninflammation, therefore FeNO levels are higher in people with asthma \nand, by measuring these levels during diagnosis and management of the \ndisease, it can improve basic asthma care. Using FeNO measurements to \nevaluate airway inflammation in asthma represent a significant advance \nin respiratory medicine, but this had been an expensive test to deliver \nin everyday practice, until now with the NObreath\u00ae.\u201d \n  <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\n    \u201cBreath analysis with the NObreath\u00ae FeNO monitor is quick, simple \nand non-invasive, providing a better procedure for both the GP and the \npatient. By using the NObreath\u00ae FeNO monitor in basic asthma care, the \nGP will be able to not only determine the type of asthma (allergic or \nnon-allergic) allowing the correct medication to be prescribed but also \ndifferentiate between asthma and other respiratory diseases such as COPD\n and ACOS through a process of elimination.
