CO poisoning is the most \ncommon type of fatal poisoning in many countries[1]. Prolonged exposure \ncan lead to severe health consequences, and if exposed for too long, \ndeath.&nbsp;An exposure to 1200ppm of carbon monoxide can kill you within 3 \nminutes[2].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Department of Health for England and Wales, on \naverage per year, 4,000 people go to A&amp;E, 200 people are \nhospitalised and there are around 50 deaths, all because of carbon \nmonoxide poisoning[3]. In the United States between 1999 and 2010, a \ntotal of 5,149 deaths were from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning &#8211;\n an average of 430 deaths per year[4].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the pioneers in breath analysis, the ToxCO monitor measures \nexhaled breath on a patient to screen for carbon monoxide poisoning, \nproviding a quicker method than the traditional blood test. A breath \nsample can be taken from a patient via mouthpiece, or in instances where\n the patient is responsive unconscious, by face mask. By being able to \nmass screen patients on-site, it can rule out unnecessary hospital \nadmissions and save valuable time, furthermore, the ToxCO has ambient \nmonitoring which begins from switch-on, alerting emergency services to \nhigh levels of atmospheric CO at the scene of the incident, helping to \nsafeguard them and be prepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Emergency Services Show (ESS) just around the corner, \nBedfont is campaigning to #stopthesilentkiller. Breath analysis with the ToxCO is non-invasive, which means less\n discomfort for the patient and valuable time saved as %COHb and ppm \nvalues are shown onscreen instantly compared to the lengthy process of \nbloodwork.
