{"id":361,"date":"2016-05-17T12:45:00","date_gmt":"2016-05-17T12:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bedfont.com\/wp\/?p=361"},"modified":"2016-05-17T12:45:00","modified_gmt":"2016-05-17T12:45:00","slug":"bedfont-joins-the-battle-against-tobacco-dependency-in-eastern-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bedfont.com\/de\/bedfont-joins-the-battle-against-tobacco-dependency-in-eastern-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Bedfont\u00ae joins the battle against tobacco dependency in Eastern Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>Bedfont Scientific, based in Maidstone, Kent, donates over  50 Smokerlyzers\u00ae to the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco  Prevention (ENSP) <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bedfont Scientific, who in 2016 is celebrating 40 years in business, \nhas donated over 50 carbon monoxide breath monitors, famously known as \nthe Smokerlyzer\u00ae, to the ENSP. Bedfont hopes to help them establish \ncarbon monoxide (CO) verification into European Stop Smoking Services \n(SSS) to motivate people to stop smoking. This decision arrives after \nsuccess with CO monitoring in Smoking Cessation in the UK, following the\n publication of the NICE guidelines for Stop Smoking Services in \nFebruary 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the 5-6th April 2016, the ENSP, held its hands-on training \nprogramme of the Global Bridges grant entitled \u201cEuropean Accreditation \nCurriculum on Tobacco Treatment\u201d. Funded through a Pfizer Independent \nGrant for Learning and Change through Global Bridges, this capacity \ndevelopment project aimed to train and certify (with the provision of \nCME) professionals on treating tobacco dependency in Eastern Europe with\n a particular focus on clinicians from Romania, Armenia, Georgia, \nUkraine and Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 190 participants from around the globe participated in an \ninteractive programme, which included keynote presentations from the \nhead of the WHO FCTC secretariat and the head of the Tobacco Unit of the\n European Commission-DG SANTE among a number of leading researchers in \ntobacco control and treatment. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dominick Nguyen, Health Policy and Communication Manager at ENSP, says<\/strong>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\n    \u201cThe training programme received great enthusiasm from clinicians, \nhealth professionals, researchers and KOLs from Eastern Europe, who had \nthe chance to discover and practice carbon monoxide measurements with \nthe Smokerlyzers. Participants really appreciated receiving a CO monitor\n as part of their training, and looked forward to start using it on \ntheir patients.\u201d \n  <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jason Smith, General Manager at Bedfont Scientific, comments,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\n    \u201cBedfont is honoured to play a key part in the new movements in \nEastern Europe against tobacco dependency.
