Breath Hydrogen (H2) Monitoring
Helping Detect Gastro-intestinal Disorders

The Gastro+ is a portable hand-held hydrogen breath test. It is designed to aid in the detection of gastro-intestinal disorders. How it works
Hydrogen is produced when bacteria in the gut act on undigested carbohydrates such as lactose and fructose in the large or small intestine. The hydrogen diffuses into the blood and is carried to the alveoli in the lungs. A hydrogen breath test can then detected the amount of hydrogen in expiratory air.
The Gastro+ hydrogen breath test instantly and accurately measures the amount of hydrogen in a single expired breath. Patients simply breathe into the Flatpak™ mouthpiece and the result is displayed instantly on the touch screen. The Gastro+ is a simple and affordable alternative to the traditional hydrogen breath test and invasive procedures such as biopsies.
Disposable Flatpak™ mouthpieces, an integrated anti-bacterial filter and one-way valve ensure that the Gastro+ is user friendly, safe and reliable.

Flatpak™ mouthpieces
Flatpak™ mouthpieces have revolutionised the world of breath monitor mouthpieces. They take up less than a third of the space of conventional mouthpieces. They are packed in batches of 25 or individually sealed to minimise the risk of cross-infection.
D-pieces
Flatpak™ mouthpieces are attached to the Gastro+ via a D-piece. The D-piece incorporates a one-way valve and an infection control filter, which are proven to remove and trap >99.9% of airborne bacteria1. The D-piece should be changed monthly, or more often if visibly soiled. An automatic reminder will appear on the screen every 28 days.
Facemasks
Facemasks are available for testing paediatric patients or patients who are unable to hold their breath for the full breath hold countdown. Facemasks are connected to the monitor via a Y-piece (available separately).
Instrument cleansing wipes
Bedfont supplies instrument cleansing wipes for cleaning the external surfaces of the monitor. Each wipe contains 1% cetrimide, a powerful antimicrobial detergent. Users can also use the wipes cleans their hands before handling the instruments.
IMPORTANT: Alcohol, or cleaning agents containing alcohol, should never be used to clean the monitor because alcohol can adversely affect the sensor within the instrument.

In all my 30 years as a consultant I have never had such an incredible piece of apparatus. It never fails (apart from the rare need for a new battery). I wish other medical equipment was so robust and dependable.
