Bedfont Scientific Ltd was established in 1976, then called Bedfont Technical Instruments Ltd. It remained a one-man business until Trevor Smith joined as Marketing Director in 1985. He is a Chartered Chemist with a laboratory background at BOC Special Gases and sales experience for laboratory and safety gas analysis products.

Today, Trevor Smith heads up Bedfont as its Managing Director and has a majority shareholding. Under him, Bedfont Scientific has become a market leader in breath monitoring for medical applications. Its Smokerlyzer range of carbon monoxide monitors is used by health professionals throughout the world and is recognised as the market leader in smoking cessation and research.

As well as breath monitoring, Bedfont has a strong background in the use of precision gases. It was a key OEM supplier of calibration gas mixtures, sold internationally to manufacturers of safety, environmental, emissions, and medical gas monitoring systems. In October 2004 this activity was sold to a major UK gas company, allowing more freedom to focus on the medical products within the business.

Bedfont moved to new purpose built offices based in Harrietsham, Kent in November 2010. Located in the 'Gateway to Europe', close to major roads, railways and airports, Bedfont has excellent communication networks throughout the UK and continental Europe.

The name Bedfont is synonymous with quality and the company has achieved accreditation to BS EN ISO 9001:2000, BS EN ISO 13485:2003 and CE marking to the medical device directive.

Future Developments

Bedfont's policy has always been to develop solutions to customer's problems and its expertise in gas monitoring is second to none. This approach has led to a considerable expansion in the Bedfont product range in the past few years. The objective is to solve many more applications in clinical breath monitoring.
