Breath Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detection
Helping Detect Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
ToxCO+™ is a breath carbon monoxide (CO) monitor that has been designed as a compact portable instrument to aid in the detection of CO poisoning. It can be used by paramedics in the field and staff in hospital emergency units.
The ToxCO+™ provides fast, reliable and non-invasive screening of CO poisoning when blood testing is not immediately available and therefore can be very cost effective. The ToxCO+™ is also ideal for use during triage to ensure suspected cases of CO poisoning are not missed. The instrument is packaged in a convenient carry case with sampling systems for adults, paediatrics and unconscious patients.
Features
- Measures in the range 0-50% COHb (0-500ppm)
- Surgically non-invasive
- Auto-conversion from ppm CO to %COHb
- Easy to read LCD display
- Breath-hold countdown timer
- Auto-zero
- Easy and inexpensive to calibrate using the Bedfont calibration kit
Calibration
The ToxCO+™ requires a calibration check once every six months with Bedfont's 50ppm CO in air calibration gas. No specialist technical knowledge or skills are required, making it easy to calibrate with our Calibration Kit. We can also supply replacement calibration gas in lightweight disposable cylinders.
Breath Sampling Systems
Cardboard mouthpieces are connected to the ToxCO+™ via a T-piece. A one-way valve prevents air being drawn back form the monitor. This system further reduces the risks of cross infection and protects the instrument from contamination. Face masks can also be supplied for testing paediatric or unconscious patients. These are connected to the monitor via a Y-piece which contains an inspiratory limb, allowing the treatment of patients unable to hold their breath.
We also supply an instrument cleansing wipe specifically developed for cleaning the surface of the monitors. Each wipe contains 1% Cetrimide, a powerful antimicrobial detergent. The wipes can also be used by patients to clean their hands before handling the instruments in areas without hand washing facilities, or where infection control may be a particular concern. Alcohol, or cleaning agents containing alcohol, should never be used as they may adversely affect the sensor within the instrument.
